Pool Tiling Double Bay: Pool Tilers for the Eastern Suburbs

Decore Tiling is a team of licensed pool tilers who have tiled Sydney pools since 2004. We retile, repair and upgrade pools in Double Bay and the surrounding Eastern Suburbs, including Darling Point, Point Piper, Bellevue Hill and Edgecliff. Our work ranges from glass mosaic retiles on harbourfront homes to plunge pools in courtyard terraces and communal pools in apartment buildings.

Double Bay pools are rarely simple. Many sit in tight courtyards, on podium levels of apartment buildings or on harbourfront estates where the finish has to be faultless. We plan every job around the site, the building and the standard the owner expects.

Pool Tiling Across Double Bay and Nearby Suburbs

Double Bay

From the village streets around Knox Street and Cross Street to the homes along New South Head Road and Ocean Avenue, Double Bay has a mix of courtyard plunge pools, family pools and communal pools in apartment buildings. Many are tucked between buildings with limited access, so we plan the route for materials and rubble before the job starts.

Darling Point and Point Piper

Harbourfront homes in Darling Point and Point Piper often have pools that are seen from the water and from every room in the house. Infinity edges, full glass mosaic interiors and premium stone coping are common. The finish needs to be perfect, and the work needs to be clean and quiet on high-end properties.

Bellevue Hill and Edgecliff

Bellevue Hill’s larger blocks often have established family pools built in the 1970s to 1990s, many now due for a waterline replacement or full retile. In Edgecliff, apartment buildings with shared pools are common.

Rose Bay and Woollahra

We also tile pools in Rose Bay, Woollahra and the surrounding Eastern Suburbs. For general tiling such as bathrooms and floors, see our tiler in Double Bay page.

Pool Tiling Services in Double Bay

Glass Mosaic Pool Retiles

Glass mosaic is the most requested finish in the Eastern Suburbs. It’s non-porous, resists staining and gives the water a clean shimmer. We strip old tiles, repair the render, waterproof and retile in glass mosaic with tight, even grout lines. See our glass mosaic tiling.

Waterline Tile Replacement

The waterline band fails first and is the part everyone sees. We replace lifting, cracked or dated waterline tiles without a full retile, and can upgrade the look at the same time.

Plunge Pool and Courtyard Pool Tiling

Small pools in Double Bay courtyards and terraces are close to the house and on show from every angle. Every tile, cut and grout line counts. We tile plunge pools with the precision small spaces need.

Strata, Podium and Rooftop Pools

Many apartment buildings in Double Bay and Edgecliff have communal pools on podium or rooftop levels. These pools sit above living spaces and car parks, so the waterproofing membrane under the tiles is critical. We work with owners corporations and building managers on scope, approvals, access and scheduling.

Pool Tile Repairs and Regrouting

Loose tiles, missing tiles and failing grout can often be fixed without a full retile. We find the cause, rebed the tiles and regrout with epoxy. Learn more about our pool tile repairs.

Pool Coping and Surrounds

We install travertine, limestone, sandstone and porcelain coping and pavers with non-slip finishes. See our natural stone tiling.

Spa Tiling

Attached spas and standalone spas, tiled with adhesives suited to higher water temperatures and constant jets.

Pebblecrete to Tile Conversions

We convert older pebblecrete pools into fully tiled pools for a smoother, more refined finish.

What Double Bay’s Setting Means for Your Pool

Harbour salt air. Double Bay sits right on the harbour. Salt in the air settles on coping and waterlines and slowly breaks down standard cement grout. We use epoxy grout as standard because it resists salt and pool chemicals far better.

Groundwater in low-lying areas. Parts of Double Bay are low-lying and close to the harbour, where groundwater can sit high after rain. Draining an in-ground pool when groundwater is high can put pressure on the shell from below. We assess this before draining and plan the timing carefully, including checking the hydrostatic relief valve where one is fitted.

Tight access. Courtyard pools, terrace homes and apartment buildings often have no side access. Tiles, adhesive and rubble may need to come through the house, via a lift or by crane. We plan the route and protection at the assessment stage.

Pools above living spaces. Podium and rooftop pools sit above apartments, lobbies or car parks. Any leak causes damage below, so the waterproofing under the tiles must be right. We inspect and repair the membrane before retiling.

Strong sun on north-facing pools. Harbour-facing pools take full sun. The waterline heats and cools daily, so tiles need flexible, immersion-rated adhesive and properly placed expansion joints.

Products we use: [Confirm brands, e.g. Mapei, Ardex, Davco] immersion-rated adhesives, membranes and epoxy grouts, selected for each pool.

Planning a Pool Retile in Double Bay

  • Woollahra Council and heritage. Double Bay is in the Woollahra local government area, which has many heritage items and conservation areas. Like-for-like retiling inside a pool usually doesn’t need approval, but changes to coping, surrounds or the pool’s appearance on a heritage property may. Check Woollahra Council’s planning information before work starts.
  • Strata approvals. For apartment pools, the owners corporation must approve the works. We provide quotes, scopes, insurance certificates and work method statements for the strata committee and building manager.
  • Skip bins and parking. Street space in Double Bay is limited. A skip on the road needs a council permit. We plan deliveries and waste removal to suit the street.
  • Neighbours. On tight blocks and in apartment buildings, let neighbours know about noise, access and timing.
  • Pool barrier. Your barrier must stay compliant during the works, even when the pool is empty. Read the NSW Government rules for pool owners.

How to Choose a Pool Tiler in Double Bay

Before you sign with any pool tiler, check these points:

  • Check their licence. In NSW, tiling work over $5,000 must be done by a licensed contractor. Check any licence free on the NSW Government licence check.
  • Get a written contract. Work over $5,000 needs a written contract. NSW Fair Trading explains what it must include.
  • Ask what adhesive, membrane and grout they use. Immersion-rated adhesive and epoxy grout should be standard.
  • Ask for glass mosaic pool photos.
  • For apartment pools, ask about strata experience. They should be able to provide insurance certificates and work method statements.
  • Ask for an access plan if there’s no side access.
  • Confirm the warranty in writing.
  • Read their Google reviews.
