Pool Tilers Vaucluse and the Eastern Suburbs

Decore Tiling is a team of licensed pool tilers who have tiled swimming pools since 2004. We service Vaucluse and the surrounding Eastern Suburbs, from Watsons Bay and Dover Heights to Rose Bay and Bellevue Hill, with full pool retiles, glass mosaic upgrades, waterline tile replacement, pool tile repairs and coping.

Vaucluse pools are some of the most visible in Sydney. They sit on harbourside slopes, clifftop blocks and established estates, and they’re often the first thing you see from the house. Tiles here face salt spray, strong sun and constant use, and the finish has to look flawless. That’s the work we do every week.

Pool Tiling Across Vaucluse and the Eastern Suburbs

Vaucluse has a wide mix of pools, from 1960s and 1970s pools cut into sandstone to modern infinity-edge pools with harbour views. Each part of the suburb brings its own challenges, and we plan every job around them.

Harbourside Vaucluse

We tile pools along the harbour side of Vaucluse, around Parsley Bay, Nielsen Park, Vaucluse Bay and the streets off Vaucluse Road and Wentworth Road. Many homes sit on steep slopes facing the water, with pools on terraced levels below the house. Access is often by stairs or narrow side paths, which we plan for at the quote stage.

Clifftop and Ocean Side

In Dover Heights, Diamond Bay and the ocean side of Vaucluse, pools sit close to the cliffs and take wind-driven salt spray straight off the Pacific. Coping and waterlines wear faster here, so the right adhesive, grout and stone matter from day one.

Watsons Bay

Watsons Bay has many heritage cottages and compact blocks, with plunge pools and small courtyard pools tucked between buildings. Every tile is close up and on show, and access is usually tight.

Rose Bay and Bellevue Hill

Larger family homes in Rose Bay and Bellevue Hill often have established pools built between the 1970s and 1990s. Many have original tiles lifting at the waterline or grout that’s breaking down, and are ready for a waterline replacement or a full glass mosaic retile.

Our Pool Tiling Services in Vaucluse

Full Pool Retiling

When tiles are failing in several places, a full retile is the right fix. We drain the pool, strip the old tiles, check and repair the render, waterproof where needed and retile the whole pool. A properly tiled pool should last 15 to 25 years.

Glass Mosaic Pool Retiles

Glass mosaic is the most requested finish in Vaucluse. It’s non-porous, resists staining and gives the water a clean shimmer that suits a harbour or ocean setting. We retile in glass mosaic with tight, even grout lines. See our glass mosaic tiling work.

Waterline Tile Replacement

The waterline band takes the most sun, chemicals and movement, so it’s usually the first part to fail. We replace lifting, cracked or stained waterline tiles without retiling the whole pool, and can upgrade the look at the same time.

Infinity and Wet-Edge Tiling

Many Vaucluse pools have infinity edges facing the harbour or ocean. The weir edge, spill wall and catch basin need precise levels and fully bonded tiles, because they’re always wet and always on display.

Pool Tile Repairs and Regrouting

A few loose tiles or crumbling grout don’t always mean a full retile. We find out why the tiles failed, rebed them on fresh adhesive and regrout with epoxy. Learn more about our pool tile repairs.

Pool Coping and Surrounds

We install travertine, sandstone, limestone and porcelain coping and pavers with non-slip finishes, chosen to handle coastal sun and salt. Sandstone coping suits Vaucluse’s natural sandstone setting. See our natural stone tiling.

Spa and Plunge Pool Tiling

Spas and plunge pools follow the same specification as a full pool, but every tile is up close. We tile them with the extra precision small pools need.

Heritage Pool Restoration

Some Vaucluse homes have older pools on heritage properties. We can retile in a style that suits the home and match existing tiles where possible.

Why Vaucluse Pools Need Specialist Tiling

Vaucluse sits between the harbour and the Pacific, which makes it one of the harder places in Sydney for pool tiles. Here’s why, and what we do about it.

Salt spray from two sides. Pools on the harbour side take salt air, and pools near the cliffs at Dover Heights and Diamond Bay take wind-driven ocean spray. Salt slowly breaks down standard cement grout, opening the joints so water gets behind the tiles. We use epoxy grout as standard because it resists salt and chemicals far better.

Pools cut into sandstone. Many older Vaucluse pools were built into the sandstone bedrock. The shell is usually solid, but the render and old tile beds often need repair after decades of use. We test and repair the render before any new tile goes on.

Steep and terraced blocks. Many homes sit above or below the street, with pools reached by stairs or narrow paths. Tiles, adhesive and rubble often have to be carried by hand, and some jobs need a materials hoist or crane. We plan access at the assessment so there are no surprises.

Strong sun on north-facing pools. Harbour-facing pools take full sun all day. The waterline heats and cools constantly, so tiles need flexible, immersion-rated adhesive and properly placed expansion joints.

Calcium and white lines. White crusty lines on pool tiles are calcium deposits, often from water getting behind tiles through failed grout. They’re a warning sign, not just a cleaning job.

Every pool we tile uses adhesive rated for full water immersion, epoxy grout and correctly placed movement joints. That’s the difference between a pool that lasts 25 years and one that needs work after five.

Planning a Pool Retile in Vaucluse

  • Woollahra Council and heritage. Vaucluse is in the Woollahra local government area, which has many heritage items and conservation areas. Like-for-like retiling inside a pool usually doesn’t need approval, but changes to coping, surrounds or the pool’s appearance on a heritage property may. Check Woollahra Council’s planning information before work starts.
  • Skip bins. A skip on the road or nature strip needs a council permit. A skip inside your property boundary does not. We’ll plan this with you.
  • Neighbours. On steep and tight blocks, let neighbours know about access, noise and timing.
  • Pool barrier. Your barrier must stay compliant during the works, even when the pool is empty. Read the NSW Government rules for pool owners.

Pool Tiling Costs in Vaucluse

Most pool tiling jobs in Vaucluse cost between $3,000 for waterline work and $50,000 or more for a fully tiled glass mosaic pool. Small repairs start from around $500.

Job

Typical cost

Pool tile repairs (small areas)

From $500

Waterline tile replacement

$3,000 to $8,000

Full retile, ceramic or porcelain

$15,000 to $30,000

Full retile, glass mosaic

$25,000 to $50,000+

Infinity edge tiling

Price on assessment

What affects the price:

  • Pool size and shape. More area and curves mean more tiles and labour
  • Tile choice. Glass mosaic and premium stone cost more than ceramic or porcelain
  • Render condition. Hollow or cracked render must be repaired before tiling
  • Access. Steep blocks, stairs and cranes add time
  • Infinity edges. More precision and more tiles
  • Coping. Priced separately if replaced at the same time

Be careful with cheap per-square-metre tiling rates. They usually cover laying tiles only, not draining, stripping, render repair, waterproofing or pool-rated materials. For a full breakdown, read our pool tiling cost guide.

Our Pool Tiling Process

  1. Send photos and your address. We’ll give you an early idea of scope and book a visit within [X] business days.
  2. On-site assessment. We check for loose, hollow or missing tiles, test the render, talk through the finish you want and plan access for your site.
  3. Written quote. A clear scope, fixed price, timeline and access plan.
  4. Drain the pool. Pool water is disposed of responsibly, not into stormwater.
  5. Prepare the shell. Old tiles and failed adhesive come off, render is repaired and waterproofing goes on where needed.
  6. Tile and grout. Tiles are set with immersion-rated adhesive and finished with epoxy grout.
  7. Cure, refill and hand over. Everything cures fully before refilling. We walk you through care and maintenance.

How to Choose a Pool Tiler in Vaucluse

Before you sign with any pool tiler, check these points:

  • Check their licence. In NSW, tiling work over $5,000 must be done by a licensed contractor. Check any licence for free on the NSW Government licence check.
  • Get a written contract. Work over $5,000 needs a written contract with the price, scope and licence number. NSW Fair Trading explains what it must include.
  • Ask what adhesive and grout they use. It should be immersion-rated adhesive and epoxy grout. A vague answer is a red flag.
  • Ask for glass mosaic pool photos, not bathroom photos. Premium pool finishes are specialist work.
  • Ask for an access plan if your pool is on a steep or tight block.
  • Compare full quotes, not per-m² rates. Make sure draining, stripping, render repair and waterproofing are included.
  • Confirm the warranty in writing.
  • Read their Google reviews.

Pool Tilers Vaucluse FAQs

Yes, most likely. We cover Vaucluse, Watsons Bay, Dover Heights, Diamond Bay, Rose Bay, Bellevue Hill, Double Bay and the surrounding Eastern Suburbs. Send us your suburb if you’re unsure.

Usually not for like-for-like retiling inside the pool. If your property is heritage-listed or in a conservation area, changes to coping, surrounds or appearance may need approval from Woollahra Council. Check before work starts.

A full retile usually costs $15,000 to $30,000 in ceramic or porcelain and $25,000 to $50,000 or more in glass mosaic. Waterline replacement costs around $3,000 to $8,000. Access and infinity edges can add to the price.

A full retile takes about 1 to 2 weeks on site, plus curing time before refilling. Difficult access or infinity edges can add time. Waterline replacements and repairs usually take a few days.

We plan access at the assessment. Depending on the site, materials and rubble are carried by hand, moved with a hoist or lifted by crane. Your quote includes the access plan and any extra costs.

Yes. We rebed loose tiles and regrout around them with epoxy. We also check why they came loose, since a few loose tiles can be an early sign of a bigger bonding problem.

Glass mosaic and pool-rated porcelain both perform very well in coastal pools. The adhesive and grout matter just as much as the tile. Epoxy grout resists salt far better than cement grout. For coping, dense sandstone and travertine suit the setting.

Often, yes. We source matching or close-matching tiles where they’re still available. If an exact match isn’t possible, we can suggest a contrast band or a full waterline upgrade.

Yes. Decore Tiling holds an NSW Licence and full public liability insurance. Every pool job comes with a written workmanship warranty.
